'Players getting away with murder for a long time'

Good to see Butland and Adams coming out and saying this as I think there is a lot of this happening in the Premier League, especially at our club.

So if you were to name Players at WHU who would fit this category, who would you choose?

I'll start with a few -

Cresswell
Byram
Kouyate
Ogbonna
Obiang
Hernandez, although recent.

I agree with nicely, when I read about the incentives and bonuses paid out to the top six l believe paying that sort of money would be suicide to clubs like ours. I would like West ham to retain a reputation as a club who have a sound youth policy as well as giving under twenty-five gives a crack at first team football subject to form. We need a sound policy of identifying weaknesses in the squad and bringing players in before cracks appear. We will always have problems with unpredictable injuries but the above should counteract this and reduce the need for panic buying. We need players of character who are honoured to put on the West ham shirt.

It isn't just that German football is different because it clearly is but, Chicharito was only at Leverkusen for two seasons. The first he set them alight with 26 goals from 40 games but next season he managed only 13 from 36.

They were happy to sell him to WH for only £16m in an inflated market so I would hazard a guess that he was no longer crucial to them. Or they detected that he was no longer suited to the way they wanted to play.

I never got why we bought him and said so at the time. I now suspect Sullivan had a lot to do with it. He was getting a big name striker for only £16m which is of course, far more important than how he might fit in....

I'm struggling to see what you're trying to get at mate, if you can't answer a simple question it's absolutely ok to say so and hold your hands up, rather than behaving like a performing seal for the crowd.

I've seen a clip of Hernandez's goals for Bayer.

Whether or not he's "officially" playing as a lone striker, Bayer are a lot better at getting forward in numbers than we are.

It's blatantly obvious what the major difference(s) is/are. If you don't know that, you're either a bit thick or simply awkward.

The only vaguely notable thing about you is your pathetic desire to be noticed and 'exist' on here. Some life you must have.

It’s down to the club

If the club believes that ‘superstars’ are important and need to be pandered to then ‘superstars’ will rule the club. The thing is though, clubs like West Ham or stoke etc shouldn’t really have any superstars because they would be playing at a higher level. The club should be made of players that are on the up and also older and highly professional players.

If you lumber your club, like Sunderland have, with mediocre players that have managed to build up a lot of premiership experience and massive wages despite never really achieving anything or having anywhere to aim for then you end up with a bunch of pisstakers taking the piss out of a club that is fearful of losing them.

I didn't know that. I presume you must watch a lot of German football to be so knowledgeable on such things, even though you admit you never saw Chicharito play for Leverkusen. Could you please explain the differences in the rules and laws of the game that make it so much different to English football please? Cheers.

I must say, Trev, I'm a little surprised that it has escaped the notice of someone as precise as yourself that Leverkusen is actually in Germany. It's been there for some time.

Apparently, Havard Nordtveit is good over there too. Now I never saw Chicha play for Leverkusen, but I did read a few times that he played in a two up front for them. Wouldn't know, myself, but it was still in Germany.

Schmidt at Leverkusen managed to get goals out of him whilst playing him as a lone striker.

He hasn't done it anywhere else either, not up front on his own, afaik. Until such time as someone offers a credible explanation for quite how we - with our ponderous midfield and pathetic defence - can play with this fellah up front on his own, I'll carry on thinking we can't.

There seem to quite a lot of football managers out there who don't believe he could play up front on his Tod for their teams either. Given his undoubted ability in front of goal, I'm amazed half the top teams in the PL haven't signed him, based on what I read on here.
